'Angry Video Game Nerd' A Disappointing Failure

Starting with a couple of humorous rants against a pair of Nintendo games, the Angry Video Game Nerd and his home website, Cinemassacre, has become an internet phenomenon. It is funny though that now the Nerd has mentioned me by name in the AVGN Games ” episode. But what makes games great are the gameplay, not the graphics. Rolfe asked for the show's fanbase to provide webcam footage of themselves fictionally reacting to the Nerd's webseries, to be used as an intro to the film featuring the Angry Video Game Nerd character.

WatchMojo listed the Nerd as #10 in its Top 10 YouTube Celebrities, describing him as that "one guy playing video games in his parents' basement who made it a career". The AVGN reviews Toxic Crusaders (GB), Toxic Crusaders (Genesis), Toxic Crusaders (NES). The gameplay is nothing like a real Zelda game.

I really love charging up the Mega Buster, but unfortunately this addition came with longer invincibility time for the bosses, rendering normal shots almost useless on them, and making the battles now all about letting off that one shot at the right time every 10 seconds or so while dodging, instead of the quicker paced battles of the first games.

James Rolfe's first videos were intended as "just a joke", with no intentions of making them public, showing them only to his friends. When the actual Nerd reviewed such a game in AVGN Games, he didn't know who Mike was. I love horror films and getting to edit all those reviews helps me learn so much more about them than I normally would by just watching them for enjoyment.

Matei returns in 2016's The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures 2: ASSimilation who unlike the last game isn't a playable character this time instead is serves as the guide for the tutorial level after being saved by the Nerd after he was defeated in his enemy form.

I've been a pretty avid AVGN fan since around 2006 when James first started posting his videos, and Mike has been an appalling fill-in for James. The first time it happened in a nerd episode, James needed someone to play Jason Voorhees. I've decided to use Patreon to film a new series of videos going into great detail on these items.

There are a few videos where Mike Matei does a game review with Inspector Gadget, his most notable collaboration is "Minecraft with Gadget", where Gadget pokes fun at the series repeatedly by Mike Matei calling the game "Mineycrafty" and "Minecrap", and saying that hes having a lot of fun building "brown bricks" in the game.

The Nerd plays the game while talking about its various problems, technicalities and imperfection, mixed mostly with profanity and bad language volition, in an effort to warn people against playing the game, and sometimes with a short lecture about the gaming era's history.

He objected to comments, supposedly written by the Nerd's fans, that made "unfair comparisons between the two of them." This would later escalate into a series of tongue-in-cheek video responses between The Nostalgia Critic and Angry Video Game Nerd, with the two daring each other to review certain materials.

I do that for all 31 reviews, and then hand the entire thing over to James on a large hard drive. Mike Matei (b. 1980) is an actor, artist, and executive producer of Cinemassacre Productions, owned by his best friend James Rolfe , who he works with on writing, editing, and starring in a multitude of series.
